Destinations: Los Gigantes, Santiago del Teide, Masca, Teno.
Duration: 6 hours approx.
Pick-up time: 09.00 am (or another agreed time if you prefer)
The giants lie asleep in their volcanic rock formations. They are only visible from out at sea but the view of their cliffs in the bay at Los Gigantes can be quite stunning. What was just an empty bay and playground for hammerhead sharks just forty years ago has become a haven for holidaymakers and luxury yachts. From whichever side of the island we start we will head away from the Atlantic coastline into the western Teno mountain range, passing through small country towns which have begun to awaken again with renewed agricultural enterprise.
For those of you who would prefer to enjoy a picturesque and short walk we will put on our hiking shoes and stroll along a narrow gravel track from the little village of Arguayo and around a splendid rock pulpit with magnificent views over the south-west coast. Otherwise we cannot drive in the remote north western mountains without a peep into the amazing Masca valley where the remote and picturesque village perches like a nest, clinging to the rocky slopes over a spectacular gorge. Often referred to as the forgotten village there was no proper road until the early 1990’s so what we discover is still an idyllic, unspoilt cluster of pretty houses with fabulous views out to the ocean. The narrow road to Masca is quite precipitous and winds in and out of the hillside but it is a photographer’s dream. We might have a spot of lunch overlooking the Masca Ravine so, because of the sloping cobbled paths, this tour is not recommended for travellers with walking difficulties.
Please note: This tour is not recommended for travellers on cruise ships as it is too far away from the port to make the tour worthwhile.
The prices for our excursions do not include the purchase of food and drink, souvenirs, entrance fees to museums, etc. If you are in any doubt, please contact us.
Many of you have already been to Tenerife or have done your homework and would prefer to be taken on a sightseeing tour or country walk of your own design, but just need to be driven and guided along the way. You may also prefer a shorter visit to specific areas or monuments, like the capital, Santa Cruz, where Horatio Nelson suffered his only defeat or the Basilica at Candelaria, center of pilgrimage for thousands of devoted Catholics and home to La Morenita, Patron Saint of the Canaries. So please contact us, let us know what you would like to see, ask for a quotation and we will be delighted to accompany you.
Maybe you don’t want a guide at all and just need a little advice on what to see in Tenerife and how to get there. So please don’t be afraid to contact us. We would be very pleased to help.
